Dedication of I have a story to tell you…

Over 250 people gathered to celebrate as the Fairmount Park Art Association unveiled a new public art project, I have a story to tell you… on June 18, 2003. Created by internationally-renowned artist Pepón Osorio for Congreso de Latinos Unidos in North Philadelphia, the project transforms the Congreso facility into a giant community photograph album.

To create this project, Osorio worked with clients and staff from Congreso—the leading provider of social services to Philadelphia’s Latino community—to gather photographs from personal collections. As part of the moving dedication ceremony, photograph donors shared the stories behind their images, recalling their own struggles and triumphs.

Governor Edward G. Rendell of Pennsylvania and Governor Sila Calderón of Puerto Rico previewed the project with Philadelphia Mayor John F. Street.

I have a story to tell you… is the first project to be commissioned and installed through the Art Association’s on-going program New•Land•Marks: public art, community, and the meaning of place.
