Poor
Richard's Public Art Walking Tour
For groups
Block for block, Philadelphia
packs more historical punch than any other
city in America. And the best guides to
that history are Poor Richard's Walking
Tours."
–U.S. Airways Attaché
Magazine (July 2000)
From the Art Museum to
City Hall, Philadelphia’s Benjamin
Franklin Parkway is a treasure trove of
public art. Featuring masterworks by the
three generations of Calders— Philadelphia’s
“Father, Son, and Holy Ghost”—Auguste
Rodin’s Thinker, and Robert
Indiana’s iconic LOVE, this
walking tour of outdoor sculpture along
the Parkway looks at the issues, ideas,
and trends that have shaped public art during
the last two centuries. The tour also examines
the important role that public art has played
in the planning and development of Philadelphia.
This tour has been developed
by Poor Richards Walking Tours in cooperation
with the Fairmount Park Art Association.
Poor Richard's tours are researched and
led by graduate students in American history
at the University of Pennsylvania.
