The Fairmount Park Art Association maintains a Public Art Inventory with information about more than 1,400 works of public art in Philadelphia commissioned by various agencies. This comprehensive database is updated annually with information about new commissions and changes in locations of existing works.

A printed copy of the inventory database, indexed by artist and title, is available at the Art Department of the Free Library of Philadelphia. It provides the following information (when known) about artworks in the inventory:

Artist
Title
Location
Material
Installation date
Project initiator
Current custodian
Current conservation agency

Information about a selection of Philadelphia's public artworks, including descriptions and photographs, is available on this site. We also suggest consulting the Smithsonian's on-line database, the Inventory of American Sculpture, which contains entries about many of the city's artworks. Visit our research guide for suggestions about how to locate more detailed information about specific Philadelphia artworks.
